Observatory (formerly Vista-Dome)
Budd built in 1954 as dome-coach 558 for the Northern
Pacific's Chicago-Seattle "North Coast Limited". In 1971,
it became Amtrak 9485; then in 1983 it was renumbered 9406.
Rail Adventures, Inc. acquired the car in 1995 and made
mechanical upgrades in 1996. The galley, lounge, and a master
bedroom were completed during 1998. Two deluxe bedrooms and
a porters room were added in 2000.
The car boasts a master bedroom with queen-size bed, two
deluxe bedrooms with full-size double beds, two showers,
a porters room, kitchen for full meal service, and a washer
and dryer. In addition, the lounge has a queen-sized sleep
sofa for additional guests or family members. The car also
has a TV, VCR, DVD and CD sound system. Throughout the car
you'll appreciate the quality of its cherry wood accents.
