The Observatory (formerly Observatory) and
Birch Grove took some twenty passengers to the Convention. Our good friend Roger Schmoor provided these

TIMES SQUARE 2007
Passengers enjoy a wonderful meal at Frankie
&Johnny’s in
Manhattan
The
Oliver Hazard Perry and Birch Grove traveled to
New York
’s Penn Station on December 31st,
2007. This was the second time we have
done this trip and the second time it was huge hit. We had a wonderful group of passengers who
all said they greatly enjoyed the trip.
The
charter started in
Cincinnati
, laid over in
Chicago
,
connected in
Albany
,
N.Y.
to the train that took us to Penn
Station. We stayed just seven hours in
New York
, just long enough to have dinner near
Times Square
and then off to watch the ball drop along
with several hundred thousand of our closest friends.
Upon
returning to Penn at 1:00 a.m., we were treated by Amtrak to the exclusive use
of the Amtrak Acela Lounge.
We departed
Penn at 3:00 a.m. traveling 110 mph down the corridor to
Washington
,
D.C.
Our guests toured various national museums on
New Year’s Day as we laid over in Union Station, then it was back to Cincinnati
behind the Cardinal.
The
normally uneventful trip back featured a battle between a car and our Amtrak
Locomotive in
Charlottesville
. The car lost! Fortunately, it occurred at a very low speed and the driver was
uninjured.
We will
be doing this most popular again in 2008, and a word to the wise, this trip was
almost sold out by the end of the summer, so don’t wait till the last minute to
reserve your room!
Sincerely,
Brian
W. Collins
